Masters of Metal: The Art of De Tomaso Jewelry

In the world of automotive design, some creations transcend the ordinary, transforming function into art. De Tomaso’s latest series of jewelry-inspired finishes for the P72 embodies this philosophy, setting a new standard in automotive luxury.

These meticulously crafted pieces, conceived by the De Tomaso Design Team and brought to life by the expert artisans at Kussmaul, are far more than mere components. They pay tribute to the spirit of 1960s design, reimagined with modern craftsmanship.

For those who experienced the P72 concept at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the impact of De Tomaso’s analog-centric design was unmistakable. In 2024, we are advancing this vision by incorporating the finest handcrafted jewelry elements into the production P72.

Timeless Optics: Modern-Retro Brilliance

De Tomaso’s jewelry finishes possess a captivating quality, reflecting light in ways that challenge the observer to fully appreciate their meticulous craftsmanship. Inspired by the bold hues of De Tomaso’s past—including the iconic gold and copper tones of historic Campagnolo wheel sets—our Design Team has reinterpreted these elements with a contemporary perspective. In close collaboration with Bernd Kussmaul and his team of master craftsmen, we have achieved a range of finishes that are not only visually striking but also embody our modern-retro design ethos.

Tactile Luxury

Creating these finishes has been a journey of exploration and skill, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive manufacturing. Each piece starts as a solid block of aluminum, expertly milled and refined to form the intricate designs required for the P72. Available in three distinct finishes—bead-blasted, hand-brushed, or hand-polished—each component demands the keen eye and steady hand of a skilled artisan to achieve a flawless surface. With 192 individually milled components making up a complete set for the P72, every touchpoint induces a moment of tactile luxury.

Precision Meets Polish

The production of De Tomaso’s jewelry finishes for the P72 marks a significant milestone in our development journey. Among the most breathtaking is the Rose Gold finish, showcased here in hand-brushed and hand-polished variants, each offering a unique interplay of color and texture. Achieving these finishes requires over 100 hours of skilled labor from a dedicated team, resulting in a delicate blend of precision and polish.

Partners in Perfection

The partnership between De Tomaso and Bernd Kussmaul is grounded in mutual respect and a shared pursuit of perfection. Every component undergoes rigorous testing and quality assurance to meet the highest standards before being integrated into the P72. This collaboration is a testament to our unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, and we eagerly anticipate the innovations that will continue to shape our legacy.
